From Masspike to Me

-------- A Christmas Gift
This morning I drove my wife to the airport – not the funniest thing to do on a Christmas morning. Not fun because you usually want to spend your Christmas Day with family, and not fun because we had spent Christmas Eve with family and friends – a food and wine (sleepy). An understandable situation, however, as both of us have families living overseas, and we want to share with them the holidays as well.
To my surprise, when I was returning from the Airport, on an almost empty road, the Masspike (Interstate 90) from the Airport to the west was open. After almost six months closed (since July 10th, 2006 when ceiling tiles fell and killed a person, prompting a massive rebuilding work), the Masspike Ted Williams Tunnel re-opened in the westbound direction, even if it is only one lane. This shaves half an hour from the trip of returning from the airport. The Eastbound still has a portion that has to re-surface into Boston and enter again into the tunnels.
For someone that drives to the Airport more than he drives to the office, this is a tremendous gift. I also gave them some gift tolls with my Fast Lane account, of course. An account that is not likely to benefit in the New Year, since the new governor doesn't want to eliminate the portion of the tolls that where supposed to be eliminated upon completion of the Big Dig tunnels.
Then I returned home, where a portion of my family is still asleep. Seems like I will also be spending a portion of Christmas Day with a portion of my family as well.
