NEED is a Four Letter Word

-------- Pay Yourself For Saying It!
Humans need air, potable tap water, food, and warm shelter. Humans want a TV, designer jeans, a 4,000 sqft. house, an iPod, and a Nissan Pathfinder.
There is nothing wrong in wanting something. It is natural to work hard to acquire or do the things you want. Buy what you want, just don’t fool yourself.
How many times have you heard someone, or even yourself, saying “I need to buy _____.” (fill in the blank) Sometimes you are absolutely right, you need to buy such thing, but most of the time you don’t need to, you just want to.
Even groceries can sometimes be classified as wants. For example, I have canned tuna and frozen chicken breasts at home. I caught myself saying ‘I need to buy meat at the supermarket’. What I meant was ‘I do not feel like eating chicken and tuna tonight, I want steak!’
Earlier in the month I caught myself saying ‘I need to buy lawn fertilizer’, when I can very well survive without fertilizer, I just want the greenest and plushiest lawn in the street.
My advice: Avoid the need word – it is no chance that it has four letters on it. Want to avoid it even further: every time you say the need word unnecessarily throws a dollar into a pot (or piggy bank). Throw a nickel if you are frugal! You will be surprised how many real needs (like wheat, or tap water) you can buy with it – maybe you will be able to throw in some wants.
Stop making yourself believe that you need when you just want. |
